Then once the map is clear approach the ship from the top, behind the building there is a way on the boat that doesnt need you to get down Stay away from the docks until you are sure the rest of the map is clear, get ontop of the fish stall with a nice view and high ground bonus and bait them in The roaming packs is best approached along the right side first to clear out the zombies, then trough the garage for the bugs indoors, after that its carefull sneaking and lots of nades
If you want to figure it out yourself stop reading On the way back 1 had to lure Chrsallids to the side of the map so that at least 1 man can escape. 3 or 4 made it to the ship, 1 sacrificed himself to finish the objective amd let the rest leave.
I killed as many as I could, and then they killed five of my seven guys in one turn. I'll also fess up and say I made the mistake of playing Long War on Classic on my first attempt.īut when I triggered the first pod of Crysalids on the docks, there were twelve of the damn things all bunched up together. That missions is what ended my first attempt at Long War. Now I'm on the Canada Mission with the ships, I realised that if I don't over stretch myself it's ok and always keep everyone on overwatch mode, so far I've not lost anyone, the crystallids are scary in a way that the other enemies try to outflank you but these just bum rush with no care at all and instakill your soldiers

Originally posted by Alan:This is the first time I've ever played XCOM and I'm playing with the Long War mod and Ironman mode ( despite being told don't do it for my first playthrough) first time I encountered the Crystallids was the Civilian Mission in USA and it was hard, I lost 2 good soldiers to them, had to gun one of them down ( single tear) only saved like 6 civillians too. later on in the game some chryssalids (not all of them) get the "lightning reflexes" perk. Information is key, and knowing where a pod of chryssalids is might just win you the mission.Īnd. Motion scanner gives you the rough location of enemies and battlescanners provide you with a lot more precise intel, but they also have less uses than motion scanners. Nothing better than throwing an AP grenade in the middle of a group of 5 chryssalids, killing most of them and bringing down the rest to 1-2 hp :DĪnd (I'm not done yet) Infantry soldiers are also very useful on these missions! Give them drum mags for terror missions, they will need to shoot a lot! Their ability which allows them to shoot twice a turn is invaluable when moving down large hordes of zombies and chryssalids.Īnd if you have a problem with panic take some alien relics, those make your soldiers immune to it.Īlso motion scanners and battlescanners can help a lot. I also bring enginneers and maybe even a rocketeer if I expect chryssalids. Just bring 2-3 of them on a mission and you'll have an easy time countering the chryssalids. I always train a few assaults with close combat specialist for the first terror mission and site recon in Long War.
